Race Safety Rules

THESE RULES APPLY TO ALL RACING AT TWISTED TRAILS OFF ROAD PARK
SEE ADDITIONAL SPECIFIC RULES THAT APPLY TO THE DIFFERENT TYPE OF RACES THAT WE HOLD
SXS, SHORT COURSE, TRAIL MASTER CHALLENGE, SAND DRAGS, BOUNTY HOLE, STOCK  & MOD

SAFETY – At any time during the event, if any official rules a car unsafe, it will be disqualified.  All vehicles must have tow points, must have brakes, battery location open must be secure, fastened and covered and any leakage of fuel will lead to immediate disqualification.  Glass is not allowed in the vehicle. 

ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES & CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES – Drivers and crews may not consume alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs/substances while in competition. Anyone suspected of drinking while in competition, underage drinking and/or using illegal drugs/substances at any time will be disqualified asked to leave the premises. Any driver that is noticeably intoxicated or otherwise unsafe to race will be disqualified on the spot, with no monies and points for that event. We reserve the right to check coolers upon registration and during the show.

DRIVERS – Driver’s minimum age is 16 years unless in youth or junior class.  All vehicles in competition must be represented at the Driver’s meeting by the driver and/or an Adult crew member. A roll call may be held, and any vehicle not represented may be disqualified.  Only the driver is permitted in the race car during the competition. A passenger will only be allowed during test and tune or exhibition only if approved by the track director. Any rules that apply to a driver also apply to any passengers while in the vehicle.  Competent drivers must be in control of the race vehicle at all times anywhere on the facility. All tow vehicles must be handled by competent personnel. All passengers will be within the confines of the tow vehicle.

DRIVER SUBSTITUTION – Driver changes in the middle of an event (i.e. rescheduled event) must be reported to the race director and be of valid nature. If a driver swap is initiated and not reported to the starter, the entry will be eliminated automatically from competition.   Substitutions are subject to approval.

DRIVER ATTIRE – Fully clothed.  Shirts must be at least ¾ length sleeves (nylon prohibited; it melts), ankle length pants, socks and full toed shoes; fire suits and neck collars are recommended but not required.  Drivers must have eye protection; goggles, face shields, or full-factory windshields.  Drivers must wear a full face helmet with a minimum DOT Safety rating and be buckled at all times

INJURIES – All injuries must be reported at the registration trailer before you leave the race area.

TRACK ACCESS – Only race participants and race track officials are allowed on the track at any time during a race.  Race drivers are responsible for their entire crew, any driver/pit crew not obeying the rules will be disqualified. The driver is responsible for his/her own actions and their pit crew in all respects. Unsportsmanlike conduct will result in immediate disqualification.  NO hot rodding in pit area. No passengers riding on vehicle.

VEHICLE INSPECTIONS – All vehicles participating in this event must be inspected before being allowed to race. This inspection is to include safety equipment, vehicle numbers, general vehicle soundness, etc. Compliance with the appropriate requirements is the sole responsibility of the driver and/or owner. It is not the responsibility of the race track or tech officials to ensure that an entrant has all the required equipment. After the original inspection, a record of this inspection will be kept by Twisted Trails. The responsibility of obtaining a vehicle inspection lies with the driver or owner of the vehicle. Spot inspections may be made at any time. The final determination of suitability of any vehicle entered at a Twisted Trails event rests with Twisted Trails officials.  If a vehicle is found illegal there will be no refund of the entry fee or pit passes.  NO protest of anyone else’s car after the drivers meeting has taken place.  Vehicle number must be on right and left side.

RULES – Rule infractions and/or event infractions may result in fines.  These rules supersede any kind about any or all rules previously used. Rules & Dates subject to change without notice. THE DECISION OF THE JUDGES, SCOREKEEPERS, AND OFFICIALS ARE FINAL!  All other rules for Twisted Trails Off Road Park apply.

BUMP AND RUN – ADDITIONAL RULES AND INFO THAT ONLY APPLY TO THESE RACES

  1. ALL BUMP N RUN RACING
    1. The Off Road Bump-n-Run will consist of heats: number of laps and direction will be determined at the drivers meeting.
    2. All glass, chrome moldings, antenna, and any dangerous loose objects must be removed. No protruding front or rear frame, horns/ends must be rounded or flattened. Door handles must be removed. Gas lid doors must be removed.
    3. Positive kill switch/battery shut off within reach of the driver with harness fastened.
    4. Gutting of the cab is allowed.
    5. No power adders.
    6. Lap belt required; must be on when vehicle is moving or DNF at spot of foul.
    7. Window screen is recommended.
    8. Lap belt required; must be on when vehicle is moving or DNF at spot of foul.

  2. ALL BUMP N RUN STOCK RACING
    1. Midsize truck are considered; Toyota, Ford, Chevrolet S-10, etc.
    2. Stock means stock, what it came with from the factory.
    3. Stock bumpers only.
    4. No lift kits.
    5. Air bags must be removed.
    6. All glass and lose material must be removed and car must be swept clean. Windshield is optional. If the windshield is removed you must have a chain or 9 wire from roof to dash area.
    7. All other doors, trunk and hood must be wired, chained or bolted shut.
    8. All vehicles must have five (5) lug nuts and five (5) lug studs on each wheel. 1” racing lug nuts strongly recommended. Supporting rim center is allowed. If it came with 4 then it needs 4.
    9. Chain or wire must go from dash area to roof.
    10. Gas tank may remain in stock location or removed to rear seat area of car. Any leakage will lead to disqualification.
    11. Maximum 6 spots on hood and trunk.
    12. Must have driver’s side window net.
    13. No cut tires, no snow tires, no exotic tires. Stock radial tires ONLY. Winter Force or Blizzard Grip tires will be allowed.
    14. Only door that may be welded is the driver’s door.
    15. Open to any year – 4 or 6-cylinder front wheel drive car, mini-van or station wagon.
    16. Roll over protection – you must have a minimum of ONE (1) vertical post behind driver’s seat. You may also have one behind passenger seat. This must go from floor to ceiling with a minimum of 1/4” x 6” x 6” plate on each end. Must be bolted and welded. Post must be minimum 2” pipe or 2” x 2” square 1/8” tubing. An approved 4-point roll cage is recommended but not required.
    17. THIS IS A STOCK CLASS. No skid plates, no radiator protection. No body shaping, folding or shortening.
    18. You may use stock bumper or you may replace with any 1980 or newer stock automotive bumper. You may bolt this on with up to 8 bolts or lightly weld to the vehicle. If it is over welded or bolted you will be asked to cut. Bumper may be cut down to size and can be no wider than stock factory bumper. Bumper ends must be cut and smashed. No sharp ends. NO homemade bumpers
    19. You MUST have an 18” x 18” sign with car number painted on each side of sign and placed upright and center of the roof of the car.
    20. You must have driver’s door protection. Must consist of pipe, grader blade or angle iron. Must be fastened and secure. Must have padding on inside of driver’s door.
  3. ALL BUMP N RUN MOD RACING
    1. 4 point harness.
    2. All chassis and suspension components must be stock OEM for make and model of car. One shock per wheel in stock location. Strut supports are okay. Cable or seat belt material to limit travel of springs is okay.
    3. All entries must have 6” hole cut in hood and trunk for inspection purposes.
    4. All excessive holes in firewall and front floor pan must be covered.
    5. An approved roll cage is recommended (but not required). Roll cage must be in car and above driver’s head. No bars through fire wall. Roll cage is for driver’s protection only. If no roll cage, you must have minimum two (2) vertical posts- one (1) behind driver’s seat and one (1) behind passenger’s seat, from floor to roof with minimum 6”x6” plate on each end, must be bolted and welded to floor and ceiling. Post must be minimum 2” pipe or 2”x2” square 1/8 tubing. If no cage, you must use outside driver’s door protection.
    6. BUMPERS: You may interchange any stock automotive bumper. You may weld 6” back on frame or uni-body to secure bumper to automobile. No homemade bumpers. It is recommended to remove factory rubber bumper skins. If you are not removing them, attach them so that they won’t come off. If rubber bumper comes off, the decision to disqualify you will be up to the officials. If bumper is too excessive we will ask you to remove it or cut it. Bumper ends MUST be rounded or capped. NO TIRE CUTTERS!
    7. Doors and trunk must be welded, wired, chained or banded shut.
    8. Exhaust pipes must exit down or straight up through hood- 12” maximum through hood, NO tall pipes.
    9. Hood must stay on car at all times & all air bags MUST be removed.
    10. If the original stock gas tank is factory located completely in front of the rear axle, it can remain and be used in this position. Stock gas tanks must be removed if it is above or behind rear axle. We suggest extra straps on a stock gas tank. If using auxiliary tank, it must be placed on floor pan behind front seat in the middle of the car. If you are using the original tank with electric fuel pump I tank, it must have a clearly marked shut off in reach of the driver for shut off purposes. Stock ignition switch is considered shut off switch. Fire shield must be placed over tank. All fuel lines must be of a safe and secure manner, no exceptions. Auxiliary tank must be made of steel or neoprene construction. Absolutely no 1 to 5 gallon carrying gas cans allowed for auxiliary tank.
    11. MANDATORY: Window nets. You can do this several ways- you can use mesh type window nets, with a quick release device, or you can use plastic snow fence with zip ties. No metal- grating- we must be able to cut if necessary to get you out of the car for any reason. NO WINDOW NET = NO RACING.
    12. NO connecting k-frame to rear axle on front wheel drive cars.
    13. No excessive welding to frame or uni-body.
    14. NO pipe or square tube can be seen from the outside of the car. All pipe and square tube must be underneath engine compartment, i.e. NO body armor!
    15. Radiator and transmission cooler must remain in original position or be removed.
    16. Skid plates may go from undercarriage- right to left- 36” back.
    17. Tires must be DOT approved not to exceed 8-ply. Tire grooving is allowed. Tubes-okay. WHEEL WEIGHTS MUST BE REMOVED.
    18. Windshield is optional or lexon/plexiglass is permitted in driver’s windshield.
    19. You may fix rust holes or rust strut towers with the same steel gauge thickness as factory.
    20. You may use pipe or square tubing that’s not exceeding 2 inches in diameter to come off the back of the cage going towards rear bumper of car through firewall area. This can be no closer than 6 inches in front of rear bumper. This may be attached to floor sheet metal but may NOT attach to the rear bumper. The purpose of this is to keep structural integrity to the cars that are taking rear end abuse. This may only be done to cars that have a 4-point roll cage, this can be up to 36 inches wide and at the end you may attach a side to side bar or square tubing not to exceed 36 inches wide.
    21. You must have a 12”x12” sign with your car number painted on each side of the sign and placed upright in the center of the roof of the car.
    22. YOU MUST HAVE DRIVERS DOOR PROTECTION…. You may use 1/8 “plate, pipe, square tubing or grader blade. This is not to exceed 3” past break of door. You must smash over ends, no protruding ends. No driver’s door protection, you do not race. If door protection becomes loose, you will be disqualified. You may run one piece of 2” max square tubing or 2” pipe down passenger doors- not to exceed 3” past break of doors, front and back. You must smash over ends.
    23. THESE RULES APPLY TO BIG V-8 CLASS:
      1. Any full size V-8 cars will be in this class.
      2. Derby cars are welcome in this class.
      3. Big Figure 8 cars will also be in this class.
      4. Full framed V-6 cars will be in this class.
      5. All other rules for Twisted Trails Off Road Park and Off-Road Derby Rules apply.

    TRAIL MASTER CHALLENGE RACING – ADDITIONAL RULES AND INFO THAT ONLY APPLY TO THESE RACES

    GENERAL RULES – Time starts when car breaks the beam.  If a cone is touched a penalty is added and the cone is dead.  Tape can be touched without penalty.  Broken tape is a penalty.  Steaks holding the tape count as a cone.  If more than ½ the car is outside of race course marked with either cones or tape, a minute will be added to the time.  Cutting course will result in a DNF.  If a competitor takes off safety equipment during the race and does not fully strap back in prior to moving this will result in a DNF.  Any questions about the rules need to be asked at the drivers meeting no changes to the rules will be made after the first car leaves the line.  *Penalty = 15 seconds

    SAFETY – Vehicles must have either a full roof or a cage. RBOR strongly encourages full cages tied into frames. Each vehicle will be inspected prior to leaving the line.  Factory seatbelts required to have a shoulder strap. 4 or 5pt. harness strongly encouraged.  Helmet must be worn (and buckled) at all times.  All occupants must be secure before the car moves.  Must have 2 fire extinguishers, one easily reached by the driver.  Must have kill switch that shuts off fuel pump and ignition with one switch, and is easily reached by the driver. *Key is fine if you can reach it fully strapped in.  There shall be NO consumption of Alcohol. A competitor found to have consumed Alcohol during the competition (you must abstain until you’ve completed your last pass) will be discharged from the race that day.  ALL vehicles are subject to a tech inspection at anytime and discharged from competition if deemed unsafe. 

    DRIVERS MEETING – Time will be posted, racers names will be pulled from a hat to determine running order, once running order is established, racers are to get in line and stay in order.

    POINT SERIES BREAKDOWN – Points will be added up after each event and posted online.  Each weekend will have cash payouts for the top 3 times of each class.  Points championship will be at second Rocks and Valleys race September 3rd.  **Cash payouts are dependent on race attendance.
